Believe it or not, a new year is right around the corner, which means it’s time to review the most popular paint color trends for 2022. Each year, brands like Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore release their color trend predictions for the upcoming season. Throughout the challenges that the pandemic has brought, we’ve seen a large shift from cooler grays and stark whites to warmer tones that feel more grounded and earthy. According to Benjamin Moore’s 2022 Color Trend Palette, they believe this trend will continue into 2022. We broke down our top picks from this curated list of fourteen paint colors. Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year 2022 – October Mist 1495

At the top of the list is October Mist, a pale silvery-green that feels relaxed, calm, and creative. If you’ve been following our blog for a while now you’re probably aware of how popular green paint colors have been this season. We find that clients either love or hate green shades, so it’s interesting to see this pastel selected for Benjamin Moore’s 2022 color of the year. We asked our resident color experts what they thought of the color. Here’s what they had to say: “Overall, October Mist feels a little underwhelming and lacks some of the versatility and general appeal of past featured colors. It is exciting to see a color this unique, but I fear a lot of people won’t like it. It might be difficult to use in a lot of different spaces.” If you’d like to try this color out in your home, our experts feel it will pair best with a slightly warm white trim as opposed to the standard stark white you usually see.

Our Top 5 Favorite Trending Paint Colors for 2022

Mysterious AF-565

While working with our color experts, Mysterious was easily the most intriguing color on the list. Mysterious is part of the Affinity collection, which was uniquely designed to create a selection of colors that all work together. This is a beautiful and rich navy with a subtle gray undertone that helps ground the color. Navy is one of those universally beloved colors, but finding a navy that isn’t oversaturated or bright can be a challenge. This is the perfect navy to use inside your home to add what we’ll call timeless drama. This classic color is great for dining rooms, bathrooms, offices, bedrooms, and kitchen cabinets. You could also use this color on the exterior of your home as an accent or siding color. No matter where you choose to use it, we absolutely love Mysterious for the 2022 color trends.

Gloucester Sage HC-100

There were a lot of greens on Benjamin Moore’s 2022 color trends list. Gloucester Sage is by far our favorite, even if we can’t pronounce it. Compared to the other greens that made the list, Gloucester Sage feels a lot more usable on both exteriors and interiors. It has a great khaki undertone that lends itself to more options. It’s definitely not a vibrant, in your face green, so it feels a little more palatable and flexible within your home. It almost even appears as a neutral color rather than a true green. Gloucester Sage is great paired with creamy whites and can make a great accent wall color. We also love this option for a unique cabinet color that will really stand out and work with warmer countertops. This also makes a great exterior paint color on siding, trim or as an accent color. So, play around with it and see where it might work on your home!

Quiet Moments 1563

Pastels are quite prominent on the color trends list for 2022. One of our favorites is Quiet Moments (something we could all probably use a little more of). Quiet Moments has the ability to create a serene retreat, so we’re excited to see this color make its way into bedrooms and bathrooms for the 2022 season. It does have a slightly green-blue undertone with a light gray base. If you’re looking for a color for your open floor plan this may not be your best bet. Quiet Moments will work best with crisp whites and cooler tones. Keep in mind that the green-blue undertone may make it appear more blue or green once it’s painted throughout the space. If you’re in the market for a neutral gray then definitely check out our post on the best gray paint colors. Collector’s Item AF-45

The stark white walls of 2019 are long gone. Warmer, more welcoming whites are taking over. Collector’s Item is another color from the Affinity line and it’s a great option to create an open and airy space. The problem with a lot of whites is that they can feel really sterile, especially when they consume entire walls. Collector’s Item is slightly creamy without looking aged or outdated. Our best advice if you choose a white color is to make sure you have a lot of nice, natural light. Elements such as art or plants can create visual interest to help bring a room alive. Be aware though that white walls can be difficult to keep clean. Before you take the plunge with a white room or interior be sure to choose your paint product wisely. A high quality paint with protective properties, a little bit of sheen, and built in clean-ability will serve you best. We recommend Benjamin Moore’s Aura or Aura Bath and Spa to help keep your whites looking fresh.

Wildflower 2090-40

This last color was a little difficult to choose from the list, but we couldn’t deny the playful nature of Wild Flower 2090-40. This is technically a red. However, it’s pink and orange undertones pull it into the terracotta color family. Since this color is earthy and grounded it gives the impression of effortless style. Although it might seem intimidating, it can be used in a lot of ways. This makes for a really fun front door color and it’s a more modern take on the classic and popular red door. We also would love to see this as an accent wall in a bedroom or nursery, a bathroom, or even in a dining room. If you’re willing to try it out, we’re confident this will be a surprising color that you’ll love.

2022’s Best Paint Colors

According to Benjamin Moore, 2022 paint colors will feature a lot of greens, pastels, and earth tones, so it’s not a huge departure from the 2021 season. Overall, these colors do feel a bit more toned down and lighter than what we’ve seen. Blue is also nearly nonexistent on this list, which is a huge change in trends. We’re really excited to see the earth tones stay on trend because they feel really rich, grounded, and welcoming. These are just our top 5 favorite Benjamin Moore colors for 2022, so be sure to check out the complete list of all 14 colors.
