What is Plogging? – Living Green

Show of hands, who here has heard of plogging?  Alright,  we both know I can’t see anyone’s hands BUT I am going to guess that even if you’ve heard of plogging you might still be a little confused on just what exactly it is. Plogging is a new Swedish fitness craze that hit the social media scene just a couple weeks ago.  Plogging brings together two things we’re incredibly passionate about here at Kind Home Solutions; personal health and environmental responsibility. So, what is plogging?

Look how proud I am of my haul!

Plogging is the act of walking, jogging, or running (hence the fitness aspect) and picking up trash along the way.  It sounds crazy simple and that’s because it is.  The moment we heard about plogging we knew right away that we wanted to give it a try.  Now, admittedly I am not a fan of jogging or running so I knew walking would be the way to go.

What do you need for plogging?  Again, it’s insanely simple but all you need is a good pair of sneakers and a bag of some kind.  This can be a trash bag, a grocery bag, or a reusable bag if you’re trying to get extra eco friendly points!  I lucked out and actually found a Target bag on my walk so I decided to use that. Plogging is legitimately so simple.  I chose to walk around my neighborhood and let me tell you.  I found SO MUCH stuff.  It was actually kind of sad the amount of trash that I found within the first ten minutes.  That being said, it felt great to know I was doing something positive about it.

This is about 2 minutes into the walk.

I really enjoyed giving plogging a try and would definitely recommend it.  I love my neighborhood and I happen to live and work in one of the most beautiful states.  It felt good knowing I was doing something, regardless of how small, to make my community a little more beautiful.  As a local company we’re committed to giving back and this is a great way to do that and it doesn’t cost you a dime.  I hope to see more people exploring plogging and spending time doing something great for their community.  Sometimes the smallest, simplest action can cause a ripple effect for bigger change.  So, will you be giving plogging a try?
