Best Kitchen Cabinet Paint Colors 2022 by Sherwin Williams

We’ve looked into our crystal ball and we see these fresh and fun cabinet colors in your future. Painting your cabinets is a simple and cost-effective way to upgrade your kitchen.  A fresh coat of paint on your kitchen or bathroom cabinets can completely transform the look and feel of your home. In 2019 and 2020 we saw a lot of homeowners go with a classic, sharp white, but that trend may be staying in the past. Our goal is to keep Colorado on trend when it comes to colors, so we know these will definitely push you outside of your comfort zone. Popular kitchen cabinet colors in 2022 are looking colorful, dramatic, and bring in a lot more personality. Let’s get into our top five cabinet colors for this year!

Contented SW 6191

Unless you’ve been living under a rock lately then you already know how popular green is for this year. Both Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams have selected green as their color of the year. We are loving this beautiful light shade of green for cabinets. When you look at Contented on its own it may appear slightly gray, but the green undertone makes it feel natural, earthy, and grounded.

This kind of color is a great option for those looking to lighten up their kitchen cabinets while keeping things on trend. It’s got a much softer finish than some of the sharp whites we’ve been seeing over the last few years, which makes it a bit more welcoming and inviting.

Smoky Azurite SW 9148

photo of kitchen cabinets painted smoky azurite sw 9148Blue is one of those colors that never goes out of style. As the most common favorite color in the world we had to be sure to represent it here with Smoky Azurite. This is a great medium blue with a touch of gray that helps tone down the saturation. This cabinet color would look particularly beautiful with lighter countertops. You can even play around with color placement for a unique and trendy take.

For a more dynamic kitchen cabinet makeover consider doing Smoky Azurite on your lower cabinets and pairing it with white cabinets on top. This style helps keep the eye moving and can help your kitchen ceilings feel taller and more open.

Grecian Ivory SW 7541

If you were considering white cabinets, but are having second thoughts, Grecian Ivory might be the perfect cabinet color for you! This color begins with a white base, but the gray and yellow undertone helps to warm the color up resulting in a slightly putty-like coloring. This description may not sound too appealing, but we promise this one is worth a try.

Traditional white cabinets can feel really harsh and cold. By adding warmer pigments to a lighter color you’re able to lighten up your space while creating a timeless and comfortable feel. Grecian Ivory pairs well with both light and dark countertops including some of those more challenging countertop colors like red, green, or brown.

Taupe Tone SW 7633

One color we’re hearing more and more clients ask about is taupe. Taupe Tone is described as a brownish-gray. It can be compared to colors like french gray, some beiges, or even some slightly purple colors. No matter how you interpret the color, it is undeniably beautiful and elegant.

Taupe Tone from Sherwin Williams is a fantastic taupe because it feels slightly more gray, which means it doesn’t lean towards purple or orange. It would be considered a very neutral taupe, which makes it a very versatile color in different spaces. If you have darker countertops, we have to insist that you give this stunning color a try!

Lazy Gray SW 6254

Here we have another great option if you’re looking for a cabinet color that functions similarly to white without actually being a traditional, crisp white. Lazy Gray is for all of our gray fans out there. Gray has experienced a decline in popularity recently in lieu of warmer tones, but we wanted to include Lazy Gray here. So many of our clients still ask about gray and despite the nationwide trends we are seeing, we have to pay attention to what our clients want.

Lazy Gray has a slightly blue undertone, so you want to be sure to get some samples to test before committing to this color. Lighting can play a huge role in how a color appears, so if it’s looking a little too blue, you might consider changing out your light bulbs to a warmer light. Since this gray is so neutral it should look great with black or white countertops. If you have warmer or uniquely colored countertops you may want to consider a different color (like Taupe Tone, Contented, or Grecian Ivory)!

And there you have it—Kitchen Cabinet Color Trends for 2022

We hope this list gives you some inspiration for your kitchen and pushes you to think outside the box when it comes to choosing a kitchen cabinet color in 2022. Coloradans can often fall behind on color trends and are slow to adapt, which can lead to homes looking and feeling quite similar. To avoid this color trap, consider a bolder color option or even a soft cream in lieu of the classic white we’ve become accustomed to.
